Minecraft city 2015!

As the city lay quiet and no cars were driving, there was a creepy one way road just sitting there with old cracks made by being in use. Trees surrounded the river, in front of the road. The river will be turned into a one way bridge, with street lights, public buildings, parks and lots more.

The one way road has three lanes all together and it is attached to the 105 Freeway.

By the end of the road there are three arrows. One arrow points straight and the others face left and right. Where the arrow points straight there is no road, but I will build the road there soon.

 

My first driving test 2015

My grandad, who I call Da, is 60 years old and he is my role model because he likes fishing and bikes and he makes me laugh.

One fine day we were in the car going to Parnassus with my nana and da. Da asked me "how would you like to have your first driving test with me?" 

"Great!" I said. So to Parnassus we went.

It was starting to rain and we were in the caravan when Da told me that I could have my first driving test that day.

So I went with him outside, hopped in the truck, turned the key and the motor started up.  Da was sitting in the passenger seat and telling me what to do. 

My two hands were on the steering wheel and I wasn't driving yet but I could see the dashboard ready to tell me how fast I was going. 

He told me to put it into gear and accelerate. I gently pushed on the accelerator then the 4WD rolled forward. I was off driving.   I felt a bit nervous but in the end I felt proud because I did it! 

Next time I had my driving test I did reversing too.

About Computers in 2015

Computers are great because people use them every day, by checking electronic mail which stands for email and for the internet for websites, Google,  for storage and lots more.

What I like about computers is that it they are handy running things.  There are two kinds of computer makers. One kind is Windows Microsoft and another kind is just Apple.

Lost at dress mart mall

One fine day my dad, his girlfriend Kath and I were going to Dress Mart Mall. We were in the car and I was busting to go to the toilet.

Finally we arrived at the mall and first thing I did was rush to the toilet

After I went, I walked out of the exit and dad and Kath weren't there. I didn't see anything apart from an old games machine. I looked and I looked but I couldn't find them so I walked around in a loop of the mall without worrying about getting lost and still I couldn't find them.  I walked around a different path and there they were! I had found them! I felt surprised.  They were still standing outside the exit and that was when I realised that there were two exits and I had come out the wrong one.

They were smiling because they thought that I gotten  stuck in the toilet. After we laughed, we just Carried on shopping.

The Arts Finale

Yesterday our school went to the arts finale in the city.

We performed in a flash mob and did plays.

The thing that I really liked was watching all the plays and working the sound.

I connected with the plays by watching them and I wasn't being silly and not watching.

I saw people showing their parents around the place which is showing manaaki.

At the end people were filming and taking photos and clapping and dancing with us.

I would like to do it again because this time I was a sound person and next time I would like to be in one of the plays.

 

Science reflection

What is a quality of being scientist?

I was curious about the invertebrates because I was interested about seeing them and learning about them.

How did I use critical feedback to improve my projects?

I improved on the drawing invertebrates by doing lots of copies then once I was good at it from the copies I did a big copy that I coloured in.  I drew a caterpillar.

Bike crash going to school

 

Have you ever collided with someone else? Like on a scooter at the scooter park, or collided with someone on a bike? Well a collision on the way to school caught me by surprise. 

When I usually go to school I scooter, and I always go by myself. But that day I biked. I go around all the blocks like a maze to get to school so it lasts longer.

One sunny but cold morning I was going to school on my bike along Hawthorne St. I was running early for school and everything was going great and I could feel my hard handlebars. I don't go the short way up the bridge because my arms were little weak ones and it was too heavy to get it up and down the bridge.

I was wearing my big blue jacket and I was zooming fast as the letterboxes flashed past. I could hear myself pedalling and my bike chain going around.

I was going to turn the corner and as I turned the corner Zoom! This rather fat kid on his way to school smashed into me! And ran me over.

It really hurt me, I was in pain! And during the crash I thought that I heard my tire pop but is wasn't mine. Maybe it was the boy's tyre.

I could feel pain in my stomach when he ran me over.

I was riding my little slow red bike and and saw he was riding his big fast gear heavy bike.

After the crash he said sorry.

He Carried on on his fast gear bike and I went on my slow little red bike, walking it thinking that he popped my front tire. But he didn't, so I just carried on going to school.

Not all collisions turn out to be bad, at least not for me.

Camp 2015

When I’m at school camp I'm always the last to get to sleep and that really annoys me! This year when I was 

in my sleeping bag, kids in my cabin were planning to sneak out once all the teachers were asleep but that never happened. Everyone in my cabin was whispering most of the night and they were making snorting sounds and other silly sounds. Sam kept turning the light on. Others would peep out the window to see if the teachers were asleep yet so we could escape and play on the tractor in the dark. But we never did.

Later on, there was somebody snoring like a chainsaw. It was difficult to get to sleep, and whenever someone started snoring again, Mylo would say "there goes the chainsaw again!".

The next morning we got up early so we could start the activities. The first thing we did was a fun walk with mr Lukes. With Mr Lukes we explored nature and looked at nice flowers. I didn't feel tired when we explored all around the camp, or even at the quiz that night.

But the second morning, I was a little bit tired. But I didn't mind, because it's fun fun staying up extremely late.

My birthday 2015

For my awesome birthday we went to a fun road park  where there was these cool fake roads for bikes scooters or anything but of force not for cars!

I invited jye tiler Naima Sam and caurs!

Once everybody was there we all played on our bikes and scooters on the mini New Zealand roads and I brought my bike we had a great time and I was having a good time doing skids on my bike!

We got called back for a drink and some food we all had our own little party bag full of minecraft stuff because I had a minecraft party! 

Then everyone sang to me happy birthday then we had some cake the cake was very good with a little minecraft creepy on the top and it said happy birthday Ben! Also on the top.

Finally I could open the presents yay!! I said and before I even opened them people were saying open mine first!

I opened my presents I got a bingo game for rainy days from jye and I got a burglar alarm and and something else that I forgot what it was!! From Sam and I got a salt powered robot and from my dad I got a warrior's top and a pair of warriors shorts and I got midnight club for my Xbox 360 midnight club is my favourite video game! And it is a car racing game.

And the last was the greatest one of all! As I opened it I saw the words Windows 8! I was so so happy I nearly cried with joy and I always wanted a windows 8 laptop!!!! was so! so!! so!!! Excited!!!

I got the computer from my nana and gramps .

When I got home I played on my laptop all day!

Waimairi school

Waimairi School is a great place to learn and grow.

At Waimairi School there are 22 classrooms and 500 kids.

Did you know there is a river under Waimairi School and

also the school is 101 years old!!!.

At waimairi school there are 60 ipads and 60

computers.

The school turned 100 at the beginning of 2014.

When that happened the school was on CTV news.

The school survived the earthquake!.

Naima: Waimairi School is the best school ever. Unlike other schools, it let's you use wonderful creative things for The Arts, even if it is a paint shirt. In Waimairi School they let parents come and help and take the of kids to school trips. We are very lucky to have waimairi school.

overall i think waimairi school is special to me because is 100 years old!

Christchurch earthquake 2011

One day, the week I was starting school, I went to pak'nsave and I went shopping with my mum. once we got all the food we payed and once we payed we stood by the loto counter. A few seconds later the ground started shaking. BANG! CRASH! The shopping trolleys were smashing together and sparks flew. The lights were flickering from the power going out and the worst sound was people screaming!

About 15 people were about to insert their credit cards into the Machine when the earthquake started and they just ran without paying because they were so scared and they ran me over with their shopping trolleys and ran for the exit. I felt so so scared Twittering and very sore.

When we went out of the building running we sat on the car park stop block and waited for about 3 minutes then went into the car and drove home. 

As we drove home all traffic lights were not operating so they were flashing yellow and I was surprised that they still had power running into them.

So once I got home first thing I did was see if there was power so I tried to turn the lights on Click and there was no power because the lights did not turn on and my mum was checking everything like the mess and my bedroom wall was smashed up!

There was no power to the refrigerator so after a while Half of the food in it got all moldy.

Walking through the mess I tripped over specially in the kitchen.

There was no other damage but mark didn't come home to 7 o'clock PM because he was stuck in traffic and but by then the power came back on so we Watch the news about Christchurch.

The next day it was a fine day but there was Thousands of aftershocks.

Sneaking an iPod touch 3

Once when I was bored in my bedroom I thought I want to use my mom's iPod when she had said no you can't use the iPod! 

I was sick of she saying no so I went into her bedroom and looked for it Until I found it! Was very surprised so I took it.

Once I was in my bedroom with the iPod I got my old iPhone charger and i put it in my desk draw and charged it.

Once it was charged still when mum wasn't looking i started to use it but then... There was a passcode! From last time I used it so I tried every Passcode there was and I didn't get it.

Then mum found out that I had the iPod so she took it off me and put it back in her room and I didn't find it again.

Maori reflection 2015

This year we have been learning about Maori ritual. At the start of the year I didn’t know anything. Now I know that we sing waiata to make everyone feel happy. I learnt six different waiata. Tutira mai nga iwi was my favourite one. What changed was the way I feel good singing.

The Waterways in Christchurch

The kinds of waterways in christchurch are natural but sometimes rivers and streams can be pelted by littering and sometimes litter can go through into the drains on the side of the road and it will go into rivers and it can suffocate birds and other nature. 

Some invertebrates like the water cold to live. Bushes and trees over rivers make shade to keep the water cold, lots of trees.  Macroinvertebrates can be in danger because they can be eaten by fish. They are food for fish.

In an unhealthy river there can be just snails and worms and no mutch invertebrates.

in a healthy river there will be lots of invertebrates.  That's how you can tell if it's healthy or not . The water can be bad for invertebrates if the temperature is too hot. The good temperature for them is 15 degrees. They don't like hot temperatures because they can die from not much oxygen.  Thick algae is bad for invertebrates is hard to breath also. 

Testing our waterways

Our class visited streams and lakes in our neighbourhood.  We tested the water and looked for macro invertebrates. To look for and and get the macro invertebrates we used a invertebrate surveys and took samples. We used a sieve on a stick to catch the invertebrates and spoons to pick up and move the invertebrates to another place. We also used clarity tube to see how Clean the water was. To see how healthy the river Ecosystem was, we used the in-stream and riparian habitat survey. 

Findings

We went to Dudley creek and the health of the river is good because there wasn't much Elegy.

Elegy is sometimes good because invertebrates use it to eat.

The evidence from testing are the shade is it good

This could be because there is trees.

Plants and vegetation and Dudley creek is good because it makes it healthy and shady. 

Erosion Can be a problem because it is when the duet falls into the rivers and it can kill fish.

Suggested changes

     These are things we should do to make the rivers better and healthy

Plant more Trees

River not polluted by not littering

Lots of invertebrates they like rocks

Clean water from not littering

The right water temperature 

Enough shade from trees

No animals by the water because they could poop in it and it could kill invertebrates

Kaitiakitanga

We should look after our waterways because we need food like fish and cow meat and chicken meat. If there was no such thing as those animals there wouldn't be such thing as meat and fish. The cause of it is when the rivers are polluted by littering.

Smashing an iPad mini

One sunny day after school a year ago mum had a old ipad mini.

“Mum can i smash that ipad mini that you didn't want?”

“Yes,” she said so I took it on to the driveway. I gave it the first drop test on the hard hard concrete. Bang! It sounded like a paint gun. I picked it up.  It looked fine but there was some little cracks on it!!

I dropped it again it made a paint gun sound again. I picked it up. There was a big dent on the side of it and a diagonal crack right through. I turned it on - it still turned on!  I was not surprised because it was not a big crack.

I dropped it again - smash! I picked it up, the whole screen was absolutely shattered!!! But it still worked, I was a little bit surprised that it still worked!

I dropped it again - smash! Bang! That didn't sound good. So I picked up the ipad and turned it on. I was surprised that it was still working, but I could only see half of the screen. I wondered why for a second. It was because the LED broke.  It looked like big white blobs.

Then I decided to get the axe out and I smashed the ipad. I looked at it. It wouldn't work and it had a big crack in it. Wow. 

Next time I hit it, the hole back of it came off!!! In side I saw the five sm hard drive with a big dent in it after hitting it with the axe.

I smashed it one more time with the axe then I found the 6 cm hard drive, so I hit it with the hammer then millions of little silver pieces came from the hard drive and I knew what they were. They were little pieces of the hard disk drive. They looked like little bits of glass but they weren't.

Finally I felt like it was smashed enough so for my last smash I chucked it on to the ground then millions of little bits came out of the iPad mini then it nether worked again.

Autumn

Winter comes fast to this side of town

Less sun up above short days come around

Gray and black clouds form in the sky

and yellowing leaves tumble down from up high

and land in muddy puddles full of dirt.

A lonely playground sits in the wet

Cold old abandoned houses, people will never forget

Smoke drifts along from fireplaces in warm homes

People start wearing warmer clothes.

Some catch colds and many get sick

Sunscreen get tossed away in the bin

Wind rises outside, I’ll stay in.

Rugby games are cancelled as it's too soggy 

Rain falls across the fields, foggy.

Winter comes fast to this side of town 

less sun up above, short days come around

Then finally it's winter, staying home all comfy, 

feeling the swarm of heat from the fire.

Camp 2014

        

The first day at camp was cool because there was lots of cool activities to do like a wooshing water slide, a fast fleeing flying fox, orienteering, guns and lots more.

At the end of the day for dinner there was an extremely yummy dinner with vegetables and chicken drum sticks.

Before bed there was supper which was milo and things like chocolate fudge biscuits and more.

At bed everyone was tucked up in their sleeping bags chatting and I could not get to sleep. Every one in my cabin was fast asleep and I was the only one awake. I was awake to 11:30. So I came out of my cabin for looking for help. I saw some from cabin 10 or 9 come out the back door. I asked why are you out side? They were awake all night they said.

The next day I was very tired. We carried on with the activities and then it was time to go on the bus back to school.

I wanted to go back to camp!!!
